A dataflow analysis facilitates inspection of the movement of data on high bandwidth buses by simplifying the netlist to enable easy navigation while preserving key placement anchor points. To create a dataflow design, use either of the following options:

  • From the Flow menu, select Open Dataflow Design. For this option, a checkpoint or run must already be open.
  • From the Flow Navigator, select Open Dataflow Design under Open Synthesized Design or Open Implemented Design. This option pulls through the flow as required. The netlist generation is based on the Active run.

When a dataflow design is created a hirerarchy browser tab gets opened. The hierarchy browser shows resource utilization from the original netlist such as registers, LUTs, and hard IP. In the Dataflow Viewer, as registers and LUTs are removed, sometimes hierarchies can look small but can in fact have large resource requirements. Selecting a hierarchical cell in another window shows the resource usage in the dataflow hierarchy browser.
