Vivado supports multiple design flows and use models, depending on how you want to manage your design and interact with its tools. You can choose the use model that best fits your workflow and goals. This section guides you through key decisions for selecting how you interact with Vivado.
The following are some key decisions to consider:
- Decide whether you prefer using scripts and commands, or working in the GUI. Refer to Working with the Vivado Integrated Design Environment (IDE) and Working with Tcl.
- Decide to let the Vivado Design Suite manage design sources, status, and results in a project structure, or to manage the design yourself. Refer to Understanding Project Mode and Non-Project Mode.
- Choose whether to configure IP cores within a single design project for portability, or store them in a remote repository for easier management across multiple projects.
- Decide whether to manage source files in a revision control system, as described in Interfacing with Revision Control Systems.
- Determine whether to use third‑party tools for synthesis or simulation, as outlined in Using Third-Party Design Software Tools.
