Python® is best for scripting, regression tests, and integration with NumPy-based reference models. MATLAB® is best if your reference model or algorithm is already in MATLAB, or for Simulink-adjacent workflows. The feature set is the same across both languages. The choice is a matter of team and toolchain preference.
