Run the following command to create a vfs.pth file in your Python environment's site-packages directory. It reads the VFS paths from PYTHONPATH (set by the settings script) and writes them into the file. This uses Python, so it works in any shell:

python3 -c "import site, os; open(os.path.join(site.getsitepackages()[0], 'vfs.pth'), 'w').write(os.environ['PYTHONPATH'].replace(':', '\n') + '\n')"

Note: If you switch to a different Vitis version, rerun the preceding two steps. The vfs.pth file contains absolute paths to the Vitis installation, so it must be updated to point to the new version.
