Creating a vfs.pth file writes a file into your Python environment's site-packages directory. This requires write access to that directory. If you are using a system or shared Python installation where you do not have write access, create a virtual environment first:

python3 -m venv ~/vfs_venv
source ~/vfs_venv/bin/activate

A virtual environment gives you a private site-packages directory with full write access.
