On the AMD Solarflare X4542 adapter, each QSFP56 cage supports a single port at 1 GbE / 10 GbE / 25 GbE / 40 GbE / 50 GbE / 100 GbE. Alternatively, one QSFP56 cage supports four ports at 1 GbE / 10 GbE / 25 GbE, and the other QSFP56 cage is administratively shutdown and is assigned for future expansion.
X4542 Dual 100 GbE Ports
- Uses both QSFP56 ports.
- Each port can operate at the following speeds and encodings:
- 1 GbE NRZ (one lane at 1 Gb/s).
- 10 GbE NRZ (one lane at 10 Gb/s).
- 25 GbE NRZ (one lane at 25 Gb/s).
- 40 GbE NRZ (four lanes at 10 Gb/s).
- 50 GbE NRZ (two lanes at 25 Gb/s).
- 50 GbE PAM4 (one lane at 50 Gb/s).
- 100 GbE NRZ (four lanes at 25 Gb/s)
- 100 GbE PAM4 (two lanes at 50 Gb/s).
- Two PCIe PFs are exposed to the OS.

X4542 Single 4 × 25 GbE Port
- Uses one QSFP56 port as 4 separate SFP56 ports. The second cage is disabled.
- Each port can operate at the following speeds and encodings:
- 1 GbE NRZ (one lane at 1 Gb/s).
- 10 GbE NRZ (one lane at 10 Gb/s).
- 25 GbE NRZ (one lane at 25 Gb/s).
Note: 50 GbE PAM4 is not available on this port mode. - Four PCIe PFs are exposed to the OS.
