For non-neighboring AI Engine-MLs, you can establish similar communication using the DMA in the memory module associated with each AI Engine-ML. Each memory module uses ping-pong buffers and locks provide synchronization. There is increased communication latency and increased memory resources in comparison to shared memory communication.
