For highly used designs, too much pipelining can lead to suboptimal results. Unnecessary pipeline stages increase the number of flip-flops and routing resources. This increase can limit the place and route algorithms if the utilization is high.
Note: If there are many paths with 0/1 levels of
logic, check to ensure this is intentional.
