In two-pass mode the clip is encoded in two separate runs over the entire sequence:
- First pass (TwoPass = 1)
- The whole sequence is analyzed and the statistics are written to the file named
by
TwoPassFile. SettingSCDFirstPass = ENABLEspeeds up this pass by performing only scene change detection. - Second pass (TwoPass = 2)
- The encoder reads the statistics from
TwoPassFileand produces the final stream, using knowledge of the full sequence for better global bitrate allocation.
Because the second pass needs the complete first-pass statistics before it can start, this mode is offline (non real-time) and operates at the sequence level.
Note:
- when frame skip is enabled, it can only be applied during the second pass.
- The offline two-pass mode is only available through the control software
(
TwoPass,TwoPassFile,SCDFirstPass). It is not exposed by the GStreamer plugin, which supports only the real-time look-ahead mode via the `look-ahead` property.
