In dual pass encoding the video is analyzed twice: a first pass collects statistics about the content, and those statistics are used to improve the quality of the second (final) encode. The VCU supports two distinct dual pass modes:
- Real-time, look-ahead mode (GOP/frame-level)
- Offline, two-pass mode (sequence-level)
