There are notable differences between the AMD SoCs (Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoCs, Versal device's Cortex®-A72 processors) and Altera’s SoCs (Agilex™ 3 and Agilex 5). At a high level, they appear similar, because both integrate a processing system closely coupled with an FPGA.
AMD tools, IP cores, software utilities, and runtime environments simplify the migration of designs to an AMD SoC platform. However, the effort and time required for migration depend on the complexity of the design.
This chapter highlights the distinctions and similarities between these devices. Comparisons of the hardware and design flows provide guidance for migrating from Altera SoCs to AMD SoCs. There are also various illustrations and explanations highlight the similarities and differences related to the design flow steps.
