The selection of the ideal AMD target device depends on multiple factors such as system power and thermal constraints, I/O counts and performance, package size, APU and RPU performance, external memory standards and performance, as well as the resource and power savings derived when using optimized AMD integrated IP.

The following table provides a starting point for developers to map their legacy Altera designs to candidate AMD device families. Developers can use this table to generate a shortlist of AMD product families to review in detail to select the best fit target device for a given design.

The following table can be supplemented by using the additional resources included in the AMD product selection guides, product user guides, and data sheets. The Table 1 table provides a direct link to the product selection guide for AMD FPGA and adaptive SoC product families that are commonly recommended for new designs.

Figure 1. AMD Adaptive SoC and FPGA Product Overview
Note: The following notes are referenced in the previous table.
  1. The maximum PL RAM capacity includes all block-based RAM and distributed (LUT) RAM.
  2. Quantity, availability, and maximum performance of the resources listed can vary per device.
  3. Supported PCIe® standards can vary per device.
  4. For Versal devices, the integrated 40G and 100G Ethernet IP blocks support lower line rates not listed here.
  5. Always consult the latest family product selection guides and data sheets for up-to-date specifications, features, and device-specific capabilities.
  6. Zynq UltraScale+ devices have four additional 6 Gb/s transceivers dedicated to the processor system.

AMD and AMD distributors can help to select the most suitable device based on the requirements of your design. Contact your local FAE or sales team for assistance.

AMD FPGAs and adaptive SoCs provide industry leading product longevity. For additional information, you can discuss your product life-cycle requirements with your local AMD or AMD distribution contacts, or refer to the article on product longevity (37135) for more information.
