CDCAM has built in performance counters that can be used to retrieve measured bandwidth, latency, and other metrics.
Enabling statistics is recommended under the following circumstances:
- When resources are not scarce.
- When the underlying DRAM sub-system performance provided to the CDBCAM is uncertain and needs to be understood.
- When unexpected back-pressure sources in the system are suspected of throttlling system performance.
- When the BCAM cache sub-system (BCS) is enabled and the cache hit-rates and insert-rates need to be analyzed.
It is recommended to use statistics for debugging purposes only and not in operational systems in the field, as it adds resources and additional power consumption.
Most statistics metrics are implemented with Periodical Event Counter (PEC) IP. The PEC can be used to count events and provide these statistics over an AXI4-Lite interface.
